How to Start English Listening Practice With a 4-6 Year Old
A simple five-day listening activity for parents and young children. Try three audio-first picture questions on Day 1 without creating an account.
A first English listening session can be small. In First English Day, your child hears one short sentence and chooses the matching picture from two options. Day 1 has three questions and takes about two minutes. A parent can start it without creating an account.
Try the Day 1 listening activity
- Turn on the sound and open Day 1 practice.
- Let the sentence play before explaining it. The first one is “The girl is reading.”
- Ask your child to choose the picture that matches what they heard. They can tap replay before choosing.
- Continue through the three questions, then stop. The next day is available when your family wants another short session.

The goal is to connect a sound to a scene. Your child does not need to read the sentence on the screen or repeat it aloud to complete this listening activity.
If your child hesitates
Replay the sentence once and give them time to look at both pictures. If they choose the other picture, use the answer feedback and let them try the same question again without turning the moment into a test. If sound is missing, check the device volume and tap replay. You can end the session after any question and return later.
Keep the five-day path simple
The public starter path has five short days with three questions per day. Day 1 starts with morning actions. Later days introduce other familiar actions and objects. View the parent course map to see where this starter path fits within the larger curriculum. The course map is for the parent; your child can stay with the small daily practice.
Progress from the starter activity is saved in this browser on this device. If you want to remember where your child needed another listen, add a short Day 1 parent note. Keep the note about the practice, without a child's full name, school, photos, or contact details.
What to do next
If Day 1 felt manageable, return for Day 2 on the same device. If it felt too busy, repeat Day 1 and use replay as often as needed. The useful routine is a short listening moment your family is willing to open again.
